Sabrina Smith, DHA, Sr Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

Sabrina L. Smith, DHA, has 20 years of progressive and diverse experience in health care management and research administration, working in academic and not-for-profit health care settings.

She is currently chief operating officer (COO) for the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), a national organization representing the Physician Assistant Profession. Smith came to AAPA from the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) - a national nonprofit organization representing the state and territorial public health agencies of the United States, the U.S. Territories, and the District of Columbia - where she was COO. Previously, she served as assistant vice president for MedStar Research Institute - a subsidiary of MedStar Health, a fully integrated hospital network of 7 tertiary care hospitals - where she oversaw the central research office.

Smith held several other executive leadership positions, including the management of MedStar's immunogenetics laboratories; the Center for Disability and Rehabilitation Research at the National Rehabilitation Hospital; and manager of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center Solid Organ Transplant Program.

Smith holds a Doctorate of Health Administration from the Medical University of South Carolina, a Masters in Health Administration and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Colorado. She is a certified research administrator, through the Research Administrators Certification Council, and recognized by the Society of Research Administrators International.
