Bob McNellis, MPH, PA, Vice President, Science and Public Health

Bob McNellis, MPH, PA, is vice president of science and public health for The American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA). In this role, he is responsible for monitoring and advising AAPA leadership on important issues in clinical medicine, biomedical science, quality care and medical education. He represents the Academy at a wide range of meetings relevant to clinical practice, and is a frequent presenter at local, state and national meetings on public health and health policy topics, evidence-based medicine, clinical preventive services, and clinical epidemiology. In 2003 he completed a fellowship in primary health care policy through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Prior to joining AAPA's staff in 2000, McNellis was the director of research at The George Washington University Physician Assistant Program. He spent 8 years on faculty at GW's PA program including roles as the academic coordinator and acting director. McNellis has worked in a variety of clinical settings including urology, oncology-hematology, radiation oncology and general surgery. In 1999 he was awarded the Association of PA Program's Master Teacher Award in recognition of sustained excellence in the teaching of physician assistant students. McNellis, a Washington, D.C. native, was awarded a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Dallas. He graduated from GW's Physician Assistant Program in 1990 and completed his master's of public health degree at GW in 1991.
