Marilyn Fitzgerald, Sr Vice President, Governance and Leadership Development

Marilyn H. Fitzgerald has worked in association management since 1969. As senior vice president of the Governance and Leadership Development Division, she and her division staff manage the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) Board of Directors, House of Delegates, Student Academy, Committees, and Councils. Fitzgerald joined the AAPA staff in 1977 when the national organization was only four years old with 3,000 members. During her 32-year career at AAPA, she has seen phenomenal growth of the PA profession. Her work has focused on membership services, constituent relations, governance, and administration.

As an Army brat, Fitzgerald grew up in Illinois, California, Georgia, Okinawa, Japan, Scotland, and Virginia. After graduating from Randolph Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Virginia and working as a college admissions recruiter, she joined the staff of the American Association of Museums. From 1969-1975 she developed and directed the museum accreditation program and wrote Museum Accreditation: Professional Standards. Volunteer activities are divided among the Women's Home of Arlington, the Narimasu - Tokyo American High School Alumni Association, and Randolph College. Her interests include feng shui, photography, family, and travel.
