AAPA Participates in Discussions at CDC Task Force
As a liaison to the CDC’s Task Force on Community Preventive Services, AAPA attended the most recent meeting in June in Atlanta, GA. The task force discussed a number of topics including vaccination requirements for school, child care and college attendance; vaccination programs in schools designed to increase coverage of children and adolescents, evaluation of comparative effectiveness; risk reduction abstinence education interventions in HIV/AIDS, STI’s and pregnancy; technology-based interventions for obesity, and using population levels of alcohol consumption as an indicator of excessive alcohol consumption.
The Task Force on Community Preventive Services is an independent, non-governmental, volunteer body of public health and prevention experts sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).It provides oversight of reviews led by CDC scientists, considers and summarizes review results, recommends interventions shown to promote population health, and identifies areas within the reviewed topics that need more research. The task force’s focus is on system-based materials to improve health.
AAPA believes these public health activities play an important role in providing health care to a PA’s patient population. AAPA continues to be an active player in these and future meetings. Throughout the year, AAPA will disseminate recommendations to its members.
