"Care to Share 2010" - Students can make a difference!

Care to Share 2010 - to benefit the PA Foundations' Host City Prevention Campaign (HCPC) and the Annual 5K Fun Walk/Run,  fundraising efforts are kicking off for another year!

All student societies are asked to participate in fundraising efforts and even the smallest contribution can assist someone in a community. Remember, all donations go back to communities across the country - allowing people to learn more about the PA profession and see firsthand how PAs are a key component of tomorrow's health care system.

2010 Host City Prevention Campaign

The theme for 2010 is again literacy due to its great success in previous years. Reading impacts everyday life for all people and thus is an important - and often overlooked - focus of health care. Patients not only need to be able to read about their medicine and understand directions from their healthcare provider; but as health care becomes more complex, the ability to be able to communicate effectively will also be a needed skill. The South Georgia Farmworker Health Project is the organization selected to be the 2010 beneficiary of one third of all total donations, with the balance being donated to organizations around the country who are working to improve the literacy of children. All contributions - 100% - will be donated on behalf of the PA Foundation.

2010 Annual 5K Fun Walk/Run

The 5KFun Walk/Run takes place during AAPA's 2010 Annual Conference in Atlanta. Teams are asked to raised $1,000 (or $100 for each runner). The donations from this event will fund the PA Foundation's programs such as the Annual Scholarship fund - which provides scholarship money to active PA students; Community Based grants - which help student societies hold interactive, beneficial events and activities within their communities; and Healthy Neighborhoods - which help support community service projects around the United States.

How you and your student society can get involved?

The Student Academy is asking that each student society help raise funds for the Student Academy sponsored contributions for the HCPC and the 5K Fun Run/Walk. This year our goal is 100% student society participation! Remember that no matter how large or small the contribution, every bit helps communities around the country.

Recognition!

Students are also being recognized for the enormous impact that the Student Academy and PA student societies have on the campaign. This year 10% (but not less than $2,000) of the funds raised by students for the HCPC will go towards a scholarship for one active, involved, and hardworking PA student. The scholarship will be administered by the PA Foundation as part of their annual PAF Scholarship program. The more money students raise, the bigger the scholarship! Last year students raised over $22,000 for the HCPC.

Each contributing student society will be recognized on a display that will be located in a prominent location for the duration of the annual conference. In addition, each participating student society will receive a recognition certificate that will be presented in the 2010 meeting of the Student Academy Assembly of Representatives. While the display will recognize all contributing student societies equally, the recognition certificates presented in the AOR will designate the student society's level of funds raised based on the following:

$1 - $249 Bronze level
$250 - $499 Silver level
$500 - $749 Gold level
$750 - $999 Platinum level
$1000 - $1999 President's Circle
$2000 and above Diamond level

Use your imagination and have fun with these worthy causes! We have included some fund raising ideas to get you started.

Please note that all contributions must be received by the Student Academy at AAPA's national office NO LATER THAN April 1, 2010 in order for your student society to be appropriately recognized. Please include the 2010 Contribution Form with this information when sending your contribution.

You can still raise additional money for the HCPC and the Fun Walk/Run after April 1, but your student society might not be recognized for funds received after the April 1 deadline.
