Suren Sivarajah, MD, is currently the medical director at AstraZeneca in the Cardiovascular and Metabolism Division. He completed his undergraduate studies at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Penn., and graduated magna cum laude. Dr. Sivarajah received his medical degree from Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Penn., where he also completed his internal medicine residency and a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism.
Prior to this, he was a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Medicine at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where he worked in the outpatient clinic in the Diabetes Care Center for 19 years, managing complex patients. He also served as a sub-investigator in their Clinical Trials Program.
He graduated from the Hahnemann University PA Program in 1991.
Prior to joining AstraZeneca, Dr. Sivarajah served as the Diabetes Director at Penn State College of Medicine. In this role, he provided oversight on all diabetes-related clinical and scholarly activity, with a focus on delivering optimal integrated diabetes treatment across the spectrum of inpatient and outpatient care. Dr. Sivarajah also worked with medical students, residents, and fellows to improve diabetes education and scholarly activity.
One of Dr. Sivarajah’s passions is teaching medical students, medical residents, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, and advanced practitioners. He has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals. He has received numerous teaching awards. In 2016, he was awarded the Teacher of the Year Award at Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He is an active member of Endocrine Society, ADA (American Diabetes Association) and AACE (American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists).
